Much of your traveling will continue on this highway past Toronto until merging onto Ontario Highway 8 West, which takes you right into the region of Kitchener, Guelph and Waterloo. Remember that planning your route ahead of time or ensuring you have the proper maps and exit descriptions off the major highways will always ensure you never get lost during transit. While on route to Waterloo you will pass by a large number of different cities. Once you get passed the Ontario provincial borders you will continue to pass major cities such as Kingston, Belleville, Cobourg, Port Hope, Oshawa, Pickering, Toronto, Brampton and Milton, until making it to the municipal region of Waterloo, which is just north of the city of Cambridge, and Kitchener.
As mentioned earlier Waterloo and surrounding cities that make up the municipality are a popular destination choice for post secondary education not only within the province but also within the country depending on your field of study. There are two main universities in Waterloo, The University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University. There are a number of associated universities and colleges located in the area such as St Jerome’s University, St Paul’s University College, Conrad Grebel University College, Renison University College and the Balsillie School of International Affairs. Conestoga College based in Kitchener also has a Waterloo campus. There are four high schools located in the Waterloo district; three that are operated by a public school system and one that is operated by the Waterloo catholic district school board. Often doing your research when it comes to which school best suits your child’s needs is important to ensuring they get the best education deserved.
The Waterloo region has a public transportation service known as the Grand River Transit (GRT), which was created by a merger of the Kitchener and Cambridge Transit system. The GRT operates a number of bus routes in Waterloo with the majority of them running toward the City of Kitchener. However Waterloo is not served by any regular passenger train service to date. The VIA Rail service has a stop in Kitchener as well as GO Transit rail ways near the city of Milton with expected further expansion to the region of Waterloo in the coming years, but are still equipped with GO buses that stop at the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University.

The Grand River Hospital for instance is located on 835 King Street West, which is not far in traveling distance from the University of Waterloo. The City Hall located in Waterloo is also located in short distance from the University of Waterloo as well making it a very easy convince for anyone within the post secondary institutions to find and travel to.
Due to the geographical distance from Montreal to Waterloo, it’s always a beneficial ideal to visit the City of Waterloo for a number of reasons before moving from Montreal. Not only will you become familiar with the city and what it has to offer but create a conditioning for the amount of driving that is involved prior to the big move.
